Getting Real About Food…

Greetings #SacredFamily !

Today, I get real with you all.  So far I’ve only posted recipes here, but I’ve decided that I want this platform to serve a BIGGER purpose.  I do LOVE delicious, nourishing foods and I will continue to share amazing eats with you guys, but there are so many important issues surrounding food and wellness, that if I’m going to share at all, I’ve got to share from the deepest TRUTH that I have to offer.

Have you heard of S.A.D. (Standard American Diet)?  The American diet is, indeed, very sad.  And the saddest part is that most of the population has NO IDEA of the reality of our food, and how we choose to eat (ahem…and BUY!) affects our lives and the planet.  The second saddest part is that it’s killing us.  Literally, the S.A.D. is destroying the health of the American people. Obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer are affecting MOST Americans and the numbers are constantly rising.

Ross, over at Live Energized has a great article listing the top 7 most powerful anti-inflammatory foods (avocados, ginger, turmeric, garlic, beetroot, asparagus, and omega 3 — lucky for me I have all of these in my kitchen currently) and the 7 foods that are the MOST inflammatory (sugar (surprise! surprise! watch this if you haven’t), red meat, caffeine, dairy, refined grains, trans-fats, processed/packaged food).  As I was reading the second list, it occurred to me that THOSE 7 FOODS ARE THE STANDARD AMERICAN DIET!  Many people I know eat mostly what’s on that list, and just throw a fruit or vegetable into the mix every once in a while, thinking that’s good enough.  See? SAD.

I do not claim to be a nutritionist, but I have made it my business to learn about wholistic, healthy ways of eating and living for at least a couple decades now.  I was already buying some organic food, shopping at health food stores, and attending farmer’s markets, but I really cranked it up a notch when my first child was born. Somehow being responsible for another pure, completely unpolluted tiny human being changes everything — of course I don’t want to put ANYTHING toxic, or questionable in the least, into my a kid’s pristine vessel!!! So, even though I have no educational qualifications to tell you how to eat, I will attempt to share with you some of the wisdom, concepts, and practices that I have gleamed over the last two decades on my journey towards wholistic living.

I’d like to leave you with this today…

Plants are life-giving food. They give you immensely more energy and nutrition than ANYTHING else can.  Also, the more alive the better!

In other words, plants contain almost ALL of the vitamins and minerals that we need, and the closer our food is to it’s original state, the more nourishment it can offer us. Have you ever thought of that? So…a fresh fruit, or vegetable, will be exponentially better for you than one that’s been preserved/packaged, a loaf of sprouted grain bread is going to be more beneficial than ANY white bread in the bakery section of your grocery store, and a homemade meal made with fresh ingredients from the PRODUCE section (not out of cans and boxes) is ALWAYS going to be better for you than anything you can take out of the freezer and microwave.

I’m guess that this makes sense to the majority of people, but maybe what’s got you stuck is preparation time, or cost. I get that. There is definitely more thought involved in eating well, and there’s a certainly a little bit of a learning curve, but there doesn’t have to be a great deal of additional time, or money spent. Don’t believe me?

I want to show you that eating healthy is EASY, and I want you to see how much better you’ll feel! Interested in learning more? Sign up for my FREE Online Workshop “Eating Well…Made Easy!” and learn how to eat well & thrive in your busy life! You have nothing to lose, and EVERYTHING to GAIN!
