The Wisdom of Your Body + Soul

How connected are you to your Intuition?…Your Soul?…The Wisdom of your Body?

Over the past two decades of practice in the wellness industry, I’ve witnessed that many people have very little awareness of the intelligence of their bodies, their deepest Self (the Soul), or their own inner compass.

As a modern-day HUMAN, it’s actually quite a feat to stay connected to what matters in our over-scheduled, over-technological lives, especially when we didn’t grow up with the tools that could help us. And they aren’t teaching this stuff in school (YET)!

Did you know that your body communicates with you?

According to Ayurveda (Yoga’s sister science, and the world’s oldest documented holistic healing system), our bodies are innately intelligent. And according to modern science on fascia (the connective tissue that holds your body together), our bodies are communicating with us constantly. But in order to hear what’s being shared, we have to slow down and LISTEN, and so often we suppress signals we get in order to keep working away at a task.

How often to you stop “doing” and pause to listen?

Try it now.

EMBODIMENT PRACTICE:

Take a pause, place your hand on your body (your heart or belly are easily accessible choices). Close, or still your eyes. Notice your breath…your heartbeat…your feelings. Now begin to notice what’s going on INSIDE your body…are there parts that feel heavy? light? strong? tight? soft? tingly? cold? warm? hot? What do YOU notice? Do you need a drink of water? A bathroom break? A meal? A sweater? Now let yourself look around slowly — in all directions, just noticing your surroundings (don’t forget to look behind you).

It may seem too simple to be significant, but this is basic Self Care 101 here. Being a good parent to yourself. Not prioritizing production over taking care of yourself. Not suppressing natural bodily urges and needs.

BODY

Being disconnected from the Body means that you are suppressing all of the signals. Pain, for instance, is a serious message that people often ignore thinking they can “work through the pain”, but this only makes the root of the problem get worse and lead to bigger problems.

SOUL

Being disconnected from the Soul can feel like a disenchantment with life and purpose. It can suck all of the joy out of your days and leave you wondering what you’re doing with your life. It can cause you to look for unhealthy behaviors with which to fill the void of what’s truly missing. It can make you feel like there’s no meaning in your life, which can lead to apathy, disappointment, resentment, and depression.

INTUITION

Being disconnected from Intuition is like flying an airplane in a blinding storm without using the navigation system. Your intuition is meant to guide you. It is your built-in GPS! Without it, you will end up anxiously going through life unsure of what/where/how you should go next. You’ll question every choice you make and end up making major decisions based on cues you get from by “pop” culture, social media, and other people’s opinions. None of which are uniquely crafted to work for YOU!

You can rediscover your connection to your Soul, to the wisdom of your Body, and start living from your own Intuition!

🌿 5 Essential Practices for Thriving in Difficult Times

How are you? I know that’s a loaded question. There’s so much going on right now, so many possible answers to that question, right?

It would be perfectly reasonable to be experiencing any level of fear, numbness, anxiety, overwhelm, panic, anger, worry, frustration, sadness, love, or just about anything else.

We all deal with trauma, stress, or difficult situations in our own way. It’s really important that you allow whatever is coming up for you to be felt and digested, in order to be released.

I’ve noticed that often when something BIG happens — like COVID-19, 911, etc. I tend to go numb first. I don’t “feel” stressed or worried, but on a deep level, I am in shock. I’ve been functioning as normal, but I’ve been really hiding away, experiencing a whole range of thoughts and emotions,  and doing my best to take every day as it comes. How about you?

One thing that can help us get through this is having a gratitude practice. It can be so easy to obsess over all of the things that are scary and inconvenient, but if you’re lucky enough to be reading this, chances are you have many, many things that you can be grateful for right now.

I feel very, very grateful that I have support from my family right now, and that I know exactly how to take care of myself inside and out.

I want to share with you some of the ways that I stay healthy and sane during difficult times, so I’ve decided to step into the Light to do what I can do to help bring more Love into the world.

In this workshop, I share with you some of the things I’m doing to stay sane and healthy inside + out.  If you implement the tools that I’m teaching, you’ll have a powerful toolkit for keeping your sh*t together during these times, and beyond!

Learn 5 KEY daily practices that will help you keep your sh*t together
so that you can thrive – not just survive!

During these times of greater stress and fear,
our senses are overwhelmed,
our schedules are out the window,
and our minds are on hyper-drive,
which can set us up for physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual illness.

Learn how to protect yourself and LOVE yourself
for optimal health and healing!

I honor the financial difficulties that many of us are experiencing during this time by offering this workshop for FREE. However, if you feel called to make a donation, you can use the Paypal “friends and family” option to send money to: sacredspaceyoga@gmail.com

Why You NEED to LOVE Your SELF

Sacred Journey.pngHave you ever had the thought that Self-Care is Selfish? You’re not alone. But…if that’s you — if you really believe that self-care is selfish, I’m here to burst your bubble.

For many people, the words “Self”, “Self Love” and “Self Care” have connotations with being “selfish” and are therefore thought of as “bad”, but our culture has it dead wrong. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Through the ancient traditions of Yoga & Ayurveda, we learn a deeper understanding of the self.

The (small ‘s’) self is our personality, ego, mind, body, etc., but the big ‘S’ Self is the true self, higher self, more akin to one’s Soul.

During your everyday life, do you make time to do things that nourish your Self?

In the busyness of your schedule, I wouldn’t be surprised if your answer is no. In fact, I would bet most people don’t even acknowledge, or think about, their true self most days. Sadly, it’s not without a price.

We all know what happens when we don’t feed our (small ‘s’) selves. We starve, we are diminished, and eventually, die.

What happens when we don’t feed our Soul?

It withers. We lose touch with our dreams, our purpose, our confidence, our intuition. We forget our true Self, our one true “home”.

And when that happens, we start running on auto-pilot, we make choices that are out of integrity with our intentions, we have habits that don’t support real Health, we find fault in ourselves and others, frustration in things that shouldn’t really bother us…in short, life loses its LIFE. We aren’t Awake, and we certainly aren’t Radiant. That’s a big price to pay!

Being weighed down with regret isn’t the life anyone knowingly chooses, but it happens. We all want to feel AWESOME, but once you’ve been living a lackluster life for a while, it’s easy to forget that anything better is possible for you.

Let’s not go down that road! When you see the life it leads to, the benefit of Self Care becomes more evident. So…

The Best Way to Nourish Your Soul is to Cultivate a Loving Relationship with your Self.

There are several wonderful ways to deepen your relationship to Self. One is the take care of your (small ‘s’) self — your body and your mind. Another is to spend time alone with the Self through the practice of Meditation. It doesn’t need to be long or strict – there are many ways to begin a practice EASILY.

Here’s a Meditation Audio to get you started…

Reclaim Your Life & Body! 5 Day Challenge

Reclaim Your Life IG

Reclaim Your Life! So many of us women are caught up in the “busyness” of day-to-day life that we’ve lost touch with our dreams and our intuition. Instead of experiencing joy, we are in a constant state of overwhelm and burnout.

Not only is this terrible for our overall health (mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically), but YOU DESERVE BETTER! I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but…You Can’t Pour From an Empty Cup!

In the wise words of Ella Fitzgerald, “Somethin’s Gotta Give!”

Whether you are suffering from BURNOUT because you’re overworked, FATIGUE from overwhelm, “MOMMY-BRAIN” from always mult-tasking and sleep-deprivation, or a LOSS of HOPE in your life, THIS CHALLENGE WAS MADE FOR YOU!

I want to give you tools to help you expand time, increase energy, tap into your intuition and potential, and get back to LIVING A LIFE YOU LOVE in a BODY YOU LOVE!

TOO MUCH!

“The two
main causes
of illness are
Too Much Food and
Too Many Thoughts.”More isn’t better.

You probably know that intuitively, even though our culture doesn’t currently support this truth (or your intuition for that matter). What can you do when all of the messaging around you is the OPPOSITE of what is Healthy and Whole? I have TWO answers. Both require a little effort on your part, but are easy peasy! Ready?
……………………………………………….
1) Make a commitment to yourself to find moments throughout your day to sit in silence. Sit well. Close your eyes. Tune into your breath. Listen for what arises within you. First you might sift through lots of thoughts, but let them pass through your mind without grabbing hold of them or examining them. Like the way clouds pass in the sky. Soft. Quiet. Spacious. Slowly allow more space between thoughts and more space within your mind and body. Deepen your breath. Settle into your Being. Let your jaw relax. Face soften…….
FEEL GOOD? (More of this will begin to help you align to your intuition and deeper truth.)
2) Take my Habit course to hone your awareness of what YOU need to live a life of THRIVE! (Read more about that HERE.)

What is Pranayama?

Pranayama is a term that refers to yogic breathing exercises, but there’s much more to be gained from learning to practice pranayama than just taking deeper breaths. The word “prana” actually refers to the vital life force that is within all living things. In Light on Pranayama, perhaps the most quintessential text on pranayama, B.K.S. Iyengar says,

“It is as difficult to explain Prana as it is to explain God. Prana is the energy permeating the universe at all levels.  It is physical, mental, intellectual, sexual, spiritual and cosmic energy. All vibrating energies are prana. All physical energies such as heat, light, gravity, magnetism and electricity are also prana. It is the hidden or potential energy in all beings, released to the fullest extent in times of danger. It is the prime mover of all activity. It is energy which creates, protects and destroys. Vigour, power, vitality, life and spirit are all forms of prana.”

Prana also denotes pure consciousness — mental focus is just one other facet of energy. The practice of “prana” (breath, life, vitality, respiration) – “yama” (expansion, extension, breadth), is the practice of expanding the vital life energy throughout the body. Pranayama has VAST benefits including — mental clarity, increased energy, a calm mind, emotional/energetic balance. According to Iyengar, “through the abundant intake of oxygen by its disciplined techniques, subtle chemical changes take place in the …body…and the practice of pranayama regulates [the] flow of prana thorughout the body…it also regulates…thoughts, desires and actions, gives poise and the tremendous will-power needed to become a master of oneself.”

So much potential gain from some breathing exercises, right?? Whether you’re sold yet, or not, I can assure you that it’s a worthy practice! This is why I created two videos to introduce you to the basics of pranayama.  Regardless of whether yoga is your thing, or not, everyone can benefit from learning how to breathe better. Check out the two videos below and comment below this post to let me know how it goes! I’ll be sure to read all of your comments/questions/suggestions.

In Part 1, I talk about what “prana” is and the importance of sitting properly during breathing exercises. I also teach you how to practice Ujjayi (you-JI-ee) pranayama, along with reclining options for practicing breathing exercises.

In Part 2 I show you how to practice Nadi Shodhana pranayama. ***Note: I got distracted at the end by my kids arriving home. I was afraid someone would come in and interrupt the video, so I ended it without finishing the last round of nadi shodhana. When you practice, continue as long as you’d like making sure to finish with exhaling through the left nostril.
